iOS 2026.05.1

Photo challenge screens now make it clearer where photos can be submitted while keeping browsing separate from the submit flow, and the submission flow itself is shorter, more legible, and easier to back out of. This release also fixes a number of bugs.
Improved
  • Photo challenge Details, Locations, Categories, and Photos tabs now follow a cleaner flow before and after joining.
  • Browsing Locations and Categories stays informational until you explicitly choose to submit a photo.
  • Photo challenge submission now uses one guided flow with consistent progress, clear back behavior, and visible selected category/location context.
  • Submitting a photo is now a direct three-step flow — pick a category, pick a location, then write your post — and the Submit button stays disabled until you've attached a photo.
  • Photo challenge category cards drop the small status pill in favor of clearer "N of M submitted" copy, and tapping a category in the picker now advances the flow immediately instead of asking you to confirm with a separate NEXT button.
  • Photo challenge categories that allow multiple submissions per person now stay open for new submissions until you actually reach the per-person limit, instead of locking after the first one.
  • Removed an extra summary card from photo challenge submission screens so each step has more room for the actual content.
  • Photo challenge primary action buttons (SUBMIT, POST, SELECT A LOCATION, JOIN CHALLENGE, NEXT) now use a higher-contrast label color so the button text stays readable in both their active and disabled states.
  • Removed the rolled-up "Submitted N" pill from photo challenge location rows so the Locations tab is easier to scan; per-category submission state still shows on the category cards.
  • The photo challenge category detail sheet now renders longer descriptions in full, with formatting and scrolling, instead of clipping after a few lines.
  • The selected photo challenge category now appears as a pill next to the challenge name on the Create Post step, instead of floating above the photo and text editor.
  • Tapping a photo challenge category you can still submit to now jumps you straight to the submit flow instead of stopping on a read-only detail sheet first, and the submission progress bar only appears when there are multiple steps to walk through.
  • Another round of polish across photo challenge category, location, and post-creation screens for tighter spacing, copy, and behavior.
  • Sharing a photo challenge submission now shares the post you just created (with its image and caption) instead of only the raw photo, so the link recipient lands on the actual post.
  • Cleaned up button and title casing across challenge screens: "JOIN CHALLENGE", "SUBMIT PHOTO", "CONTINUE", "SHARE", and similar all-caps labels now read as "Join Challenge", "Submit Photo", "Continue", "Share", and so on, matching the rest of the app.
  • Fixed the missing divider line under the navigation bar on the standalone Social screen.
  • Tightened photo challenge submission screens for visual consistency, with cleaner sheet styling, restored uppercase action buttons where appropriate, and a My Submissions–specific empty state.
  • Hardened the photo challenge questionnaire flow so unsupported legacy questions are skipped, going Back from the post step preserves the answers you already entered, and step counts include each question.
  • Tightened the photo challenge submission flow so the Create Post step has a real Back button to your previous step, and the flow handles cases where the location has no eligible category or you aren't enrolled in the challenge more clearly.
Fixed
  • Photo challenge categories with prior submissions stay visible until you reach the per-person limit; previously they could disappear from To-Do and the Categories list after the first submission even when more were allowed.
  • Submitted photos now appear in the Photos gallery and My Submissions without requiring a manual refresh.
  • Photo challenge Locations and Categories no longer fully reload just because you joined the challenge.
  • You can no longer favorite your own submitted photo.
  • The participant count now uses the correct singular/plural wording.
  • Fixed a crash that could happen when opening the Me > Challenges tab while a refresh was in flight.
  • Fixed survey challenge tasks completed while offline disappearing from the To-Do folder but never showing up in Completed after the next sync.
  • Fixed the sponsored badge on community cards in the More Communities carousel drifting away from the community name when the name was short.

iOS 2026.04.8

A round of polish for photo challenge gallery, category, and location screens, faster photo challenge loading, easier access to Edit Profile, a tighter user-tracking zoom on the map, and fixes to link taps and rich text rendering on newer iOS versions.
Improved
  • Photo challenges with many locations and categories now load faster on initial open by combining the challenge and location data into a single round trip and reusing the prepared rows across the Locations, Categories, and Photos tabs.
  • Tapping a photo challenge location with multiple categories now shows all categories at that location in one place, instead of just one badge.
  • Map cards now show "Your Location" instead of "Map Selection" when you tap on your own location dot.
  • Tapping your own profile photo or name on the Me tab now opens Edit Profile.
  • Recentering on your location now uses a tighter zoom so nearby trails and points of interest stay in view.
  • Cleaned up the Communities banner by removing the offline-availability indicator.
  • The My Submissions card on photo challenges now shows the photo count without repeating the word "Submitted".
Fixed
  • The photo challenge Photos gallery now uses an empty-state message specific to photo challenges instead of generic Social feed wording.
  • Photo challenge category lookups are much faster on challenges with many locations and many categories.
  • Photo challenge category cards align text to the leading edge, drop unintended padding around the submission count, and stop showing a generic placeholder image when a category has no badge.
  • The photo challenge category bottom sheet now shows the task's custom message when one is provided, and hides the badge area when no badge image is set.
  • Tapping a locked photo challenge location task now opens the lock explanation instead of doing nothing.
  • "My Submissions" rows in the challenge gallery line up consistently to the leading edge.
  • Upcoming photo challenges no longer show a JOIN CHALLENGE button when you tap a location or category before the challenge has started.
  • Photo challenges that filter by community no longer surface tasks from other communities through the new optimized loader.
  • Hardened the optimized photo challenge loader against rare race conditions where it could fall back and deliver an optimized result at the same time.
  • Points of interest and waypoints once again show an icon when they appear in shared lists.
  • The Organizations banner on Home now skips organizations without logos before showing up to ten, so well-branded organizations are more likely to appear.
  • Links inside social posts and rich text again trigger custom handlers correctly on iOS 17 and later.
  • Tappable links inside text views stay tappable after subsequent layout updates on iOS 26.
  • Articles, events, challenge details, and task descriptions render correctly after the app is opened from the background.
  • Fixed a cache mix-up where unrelated items with the same numeric id could share cached details, occasionally causing the wrong information to appear until the next refresh.
Joining a challenge now updates the rest of the app right away, and this release fixes several challenge, map, and layout polish issues.
Fixed
  • Joining a challenge now immediately updates home challenge cards to "Participating" and fills in the "Participating Since" date on the challenge Details screen, instead of waiting for the next refresh.
  • The "{count} Participants" button on active challenges is tappable again when the leaderboard count can't load.
  • Multi-digit badge counts on the challenge To-Do tab (like "X10") stay on one line.
  • Location and point-of-interest pills line up correctly when no type icon is available.
  • The Organization screen no longer shows a tall empty space between the bulletin board and the preview map.
  • The selected map button fills the whole button with its highlight color instead of only an inset circle.
  • Challenge photo submissions now record both the location and the location type, so backend rules resolve correctly.
  • Tapping Join Challenge while signed out now shows a clear prompt to log in instead of quietly failing.
  • Fixed a rare social feed crash that could happen while offline posts were being reconciled in the background.

iOS 2026.04.6

Photo Challenges are almost here! Keep an eye out for upcoming photo challenges in many communities — when one is available, you'll be able to submit high-quality photos, browse community submissions, vote for favorites, and explore locations and categories before joining. This release also brings a broad round of fixes.
New
  • Photo Challenges: once an upcoming photo challenge is available in your community, you'll be able to submit photos by location and category, keep images at high quality, browse community submissions, and vote in People's Choice challenges.
Improved
  • Empty state cards on photo challenge Photos, challenge Tasks, challenge Badges, and the Social feed now share the same look, spacing, and typography.
  • Organization logos display more clearly in compact inline spaces, with better borders and contrast.
  • Saving a bookmark is snappier — the app updates locally instead of waiting on a heavy server round-trip.
  • The Select a Challenge screen has a cleaner list layout and now shows which organization is hosting each challenge.
Fixed
  • Challenge screens keep tabs, sheets, sorting, and join prompts cleaner and more consistent.
  • Check-ins tied to challenges have clearer copy, better challenge selection controls, removable selected challenges, task type labels back on Check-In cards, and the right success screen after completing a challenge task.
  • Cleaned up the "Hosted by" attribution on challenge details so the organization logo lines up with the text.
  • Social cards handle long text, official links, point-of-interest icons, private challenge access, and location names more reliably.
  • Links in social posts now use the app's sky blue color and underline so they stand out without clashing with regular text.
  • Creating a post with a photo no longer occasionally attaches the same image twice.
  • Post text no longer shrinks to an unreadable sliver after leaving and returning to the Social feed.
  • Articles, events, challenge details, and task descriptions render rich text more safely and consistently.
  • Reserve buttons, selected trail dashes, location verification prompts, and the offline feature cache all behave more reliably.
  • The prompt that confirms you're at a challenge location now has proper spacing and alignment and matches the rest of the app's modals.
  • A stale "Introducing Offline Maps" highlight no longer pops up on launch.
Fixed
  • Replaced UITextView-backed body text rendering in social posts and comments with a UILabel-backed renderer, fully eliminating the DataDetectorsUI crash path rather than just disabling data detectors (IOS-3407).

Challenge task details are more useful and easier to read, with rich formatting, smarter buttons, and a polished completion animation. This release also fixes a crash that could prevent social feeds from loading.
Improved
  • The task-completed animation now plays on the Complete Challenge screen — the big celebration moment — with a dark-mode variant that looks great in both appearances.
  • Action buttons on the task detail sheet (CHECK-IN, SHARE, PARTICIPATE, VIEW LOCATION, VIEW RESPONSE) now only appear when they're relevant, so you won't see options you can't use.
  • Task descriptions on the detail sheet now render rich formatted text (bold, links, lists) instead of plain status text.
Fixed
  • Fixed a crash on social feeds caused by automatic link, address, and phone number detection in post and comment text. Feeds now load reliably.
